At first, I was really hesitant to watch this movie. For the reasons that:
- It’s a drama movie.
- It’s a tagalog drama movie.
- I’m a teenager, do I really want to watch this kinds of movies?
- The poster itself scares me already.
Not that I’m not patriotic or whatever else you’re thinking. Quite the contrary, I think Filipinos excel in the movie genres of comedies, romantic comedies and drama. I’m just not the type of person who likes drama, tagalog or otherwise. It’s all the crying and the pretending that there’s something in your eye but you’re just really wiping your tears kind of thing.
But on that note, I gave the movie a grade of 4 stars despite my dislike of drama movies. There were no cry-able parts for me by the way. I couldn’t really relate to it since I’m not married and I have never been cheated on (NBSB, yeah!).
So why the four stars?
POSITIVE:
- The scriptwriters have been in a long and winding journey and have finally reached their destinations. There were so many quotable quotes that I couldn’t choose a favorite. They used lines that have been clearly made by a witty writer.
- The training of the actor have paid off. You can recognize them as one of the great actors of our time. And we can’t not give praise to the old timers. Tirso Cruz III, although could only be seen for a few times, has great and very believable acting chops that you would think he would want to kill Derek Ramsey in real life.
- The gorgeous faces of the actors were really an added bonus. (Derek’s butt!)
NEGATIVE:
- Although it was rated PG-13, the scenes still bugged me. Remember those kisses in the movies where it’s the only one and it’s sweet and makes you all tingly? Yeah, where did those go? I know it’s kind of inappropriate since this is a movie about a guys cheating on his wife but we shouldn’t be too westernized, you know? Our moral standings shouldn’t be affected brought about by the influence. (Bring back the movies where Filipino kisses would only mean a peck on the cheek?)
- The ending could have been worse, I guess. It was interesting- for the lack of a better word. They could have written it better. Although the story isn’t a cliché, they could have remembered a better story progression, more background story. And seriously, they couldn’t find a cuter, mestizo baby? (No offense to the one who played the baby) It didn’t really fit with the couple.
All in all it was a good movie. Good thing I decided to go on ahead and watch it.
Did you like the movie? What parts did you like or didn’t like?
